Three adult family members were found dead at a single family home in Nahant Monday night that officials said had elevated levels of carbon monoxide.

Nahant Police and firefighters responded to a home on Cottage Street to conduct a well-being check Monday night. At approximately 10:50 p.m., first responders remained at the “very active scene,” according to Nahant Police Chief Timothy Furlong and Fire Chief Austin Antrim. State Police Detectives assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene..

While the investigation remains active and ongoing, Nahant firefighters found elevated levels of carbon monoxide inside the home, the statement said.

“Foul play is not suspected at this time,” the statement said. “There is no danger to the community.”

Public safety officials asked residents and motorists to avoid the Cottage Street area to allow emergency personnel access to the scene.
